Born in Leipzig, violinist Stefan Hempel has won numerous prizes as a soloist at international competitions, including the Max Rostal Violin Competition and the Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand. Together with Israeli pianist Daniel Seroussi, he was also a prizewinner at the “Schubert and Modern Music” Competition in Graz.
Since 2009, he has been the violinist of the Morgenstern Trio, recipient of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award. The ensemble performs regularly at major venues throughout Europe and in some of the most renowned concert halls in the United States.
Stefan Hempel studied with Stephan Picard and Eberhard Feltz at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. In 2010, he was appointed Professor of Violin at the Rostock University of Music and Drama, becoming one of the youngest professors in Germany at the time.
